LOST OPPORTUNITIES FOR LAZY REPUBLICANS.

E-mail Print PDF

I am shaking my head at Republicans right now.  I LET YOU OUT OF MY SIGHT FOR TWO WEEKS AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENS?!  You have let your bitterness and contempt over OBAMA being President potentially screw up what could have been your ONLY chance to regain some of the power lost.

I thought with how powerful the Democrat majority has become in Congress, the Senate, and a new American ICON in the White House- and now the Judicial branch, that Americans' hope for their own American dreams were lost.  I surrendered to the fact that we are now going to be at the mercy of the liberal agenda: Cap and Trade- a tax on the guilt of our prosperity; the plan to socialize health care- another tax to be paid for by anyone decadent enough to be successful or productive beyond the means of what government allows.

Imagine my surprise then, to learn that even with all he had going in his favor-

The Golden Boy President wasn't getting ANY support for his new health care plan!  Not only a lack of support- the Democrat party has experienced such division over the health care reform, that a small group democrats under Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR ), have even gone so far as to give themselves the old designation of 'BLUE DOG DEMOCRAT'  which boasts proudly of being fiscally CONSERVATIVE! WOW.  There was even a minor coup by the Blue Dogs when they walked out on Waxman (Rep. Henry A. D-CA – writer of the bill)!! Thats huge. HUGE.  Far beyond health care.

Of course, no support from Republicans, who are now at risk of becoming simply the party of obstruction- NOT NECESSARILY A GOOD THING.

But Obama is unable to get support for this reform even from his own party!    Again:  WOW.  This is Obama's baby.  If he loses support from his own people over this, there could be a genuine unraveling of the Democrat Party.   Given this single implosion of the democrat juggernaut-  the Republicans had enough fodder to begin their comeback in the next election- BUT THEN-  OBAMA chooses now to make his first critical social blunder by calling the Cambridge finest- STUPID  for making an arrest on a man breaking into a home... before Obama bothered to find out the details of the arrest. Thereby completely alienating and infuriating the very constituents that empowered him in the first place.... No not a game ending storm BUT A PERFECT ONE NO LESS!  The Republicans could not have scripted it any better!  In spite of several attempts.

So shouldn't now be the perfect opportunity for republicans to show why this health care reform blows??

Shouldn't now be the time to educate the majority on just what socialized medicine means??

Shouldn't now be the most opportune moment to show the conservative alternative on health care?  Shouldn't now be the best time to show that the President's plan for health care would be yet another reason to be as unproductive as possible, and thereby shining a light on all of his other proposed plans to punish those that are productive by taxing them to pay for those who aren't??

The opportunity here is perfect- but instead, what do I find the Republican base doing?

Rush Limbaugh instructing his listeners to flood Ross' office with patronizing phone calls 'thanking' him for opposing the health care reform- WHICH HE HASN'T OFFICIALLY DONE YET.

But that is Rush, you can't blame him for being what he is.  Unfortunately he is known as:  The EVIL Republican poster boy.  I know that is not what Rush really represents, I am personally a fan and can forgive him for this; but, to the majority of the country, he IS the republican party.  Whatever he does is definitive of Republicans. Another example is Sen. DeMint making a careless call claiming that ending Obama's health care will be his 'Waterloo'.  Claiming that this victory over Obama will undo him and the democrat party. Then add to that, the poorly presented testimonies of the Senate Republicans expressing solidarity; and of course the endless nit picking of most conservative talk show hosts.

Republicans need to embrace a couple of simple facts:

NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO NIT PICK THE PRESIDENT- YOU WILL NOT DERAIL OBAMA!  If you just let him (this week is proof):  HE WILL DERAIL HIMSELF.

THE MORE EFFORT YOU WASTE PICKING APART OBAMA FOR EVERY RIDICULOUS DETAIL- THE MORE INDEPENDANT CONSTITUENTS YOU WILL FORCE OUT OF YOUR PARTY

THE MORE DESPERATE YOU BECOME BEING UNABLE TO DERAIL OBAMA, THE MORE YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF ALIGNING WITH THE NUT JOBS OF THE RIGHT WING- THE CONSPIRACY THEORISTS, THE RACISTS, AND YOU WILL WEAKEN YOURSELVES TO A POINT YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO RECOVER.

After DeMint's comments were made public, I shook my head, Obama's next speech was so predictable I could have wrote it myself. Sure enough- first thing this morning, there he was:  Chest puffed out,  his chin above his scalp-

"My opponents have claimed that by defeating health care, it will be my Waterloo... what my opponents don't realize is that this reform ISN'T ABOUT ME. Its about 50 million Americans that cannot afford health care... blah blah b-blah"

The President just stole the lines that should have been the turning point in the next election:  It's not about the party. It's not about Obama or the Democrats- It's about a crappy health care reform plan. It's about policies that are noble- BUT DON'T WORK. By claiming this a Republican victory- you will send Blue Dog Democrats running back to their base!  You will make a country of people who are like those mentioned in Rhant's article last week, “The Time For Civic Complacency Is Over.” They show no interest in politics; but continue to believe that Obama is the only one that cares about helping Americans and worse: republicans only care about defeating Democrats...

The majority of this country has little or no opinion on politics.  It is my opinion that most of them have conservative values, they simply don't know that's what they are called.  Republicans should focus on THAT.
