The days of people just simply being American, without hyphens, are desperately needed. Perez Hilton's reaction can be best explained by someone who is so deeply rooted in his mixed identity, that anything that challenges this identity is subject to hatred. Meagan McCain's address was specifically chosen, to be key note, because she would not challenge the identity of the 'Log Cabin' republicans.
Lately the 'LGBT-Americans seem to be single issue minded. Perez Hilton's question was, of course, about gay marriage. This is all that the LGBT crowd talk about lately. Once, in the not to distant history, this crowd was focused on deserving basic respect and gay behavior was generally understood as a rejection of marriage and tradition. The gay movement was focused on crimes that were committed against them, crimes that were wrong, and they received a sympathetic ear. Now, the days of the LGBT groups, showing and asking for respect, are gone. If a person doesn't agree with 'Gay Marriage,' than hatred is fully justified. There in no need to show respect to those who may disagree with the 'Gay Marriage' agenda.
Hatred is especially justified when it comes to Churches. The Catholics, Saddleback, the L.D.S or any unaffiliated Christian group that supports the integrity of traditional marriage, is open to over the top protests and hatred. Once a Church leader has disagreed with the 'Gay Marriage' agenda, or someone is even affiliated with a Church that disagrees, then that Church or Individual is Black Listed. Carrie Prejean has been the focus of a barrage of insane statements from gay right groups. She will now forever be known as the 'bigot' who voiced opposition to 'Gay Marriage.'
It must be asked, why is it so important that 'Gay Marriage' be accepted? Why are people who oppose it seen as haters? Why is 'Gay marriage' such an important focus of the LGBT movement? History has shown us that countries that accept 'Gay Marriage' have lower birth rates. The U.S. birth rate is already falling too quickly and redefining Marriage would most definitely do birth rates more harm.
Another point that is important to address is how would the acceptance of 'Gay Marriage' help the country as a whole. 'Gay Marriage' does not produce babies. The only reason there should be any public involvement with Marriage at all, is that Marriage is the vehicle by which most of the future population is produced. Babies are good. They are the future innovators, tax payers, soldiers, and parents of the next generations. Gay relationships do little to create future population. I know that there are those cases of gay couples arranging births and adopting, but these numbers make up a minuscule part of the birth rate.
Expanding the boundaries of marriage has unintended consequences. One consequence is the expanded stress that would be put on our already overstressed entitlement system. Imagine even larger numbers of people drawing their late 'spouses' Social Security. This would be one more brick in the wall of federal insolvency. Another unseen consequence of 'Gay Marriage' is expanded legal action against churches. This would happen, when a Church that would rather not perform one of theses marriages, could easily be charged with discrimination.
These mixed identity groups do not intend to strengthen the country, they simply intend to give voice to a narrow hyphenated group. No one wants to ban LGBT behavior but expanding traditional marriage to force institutions to accept this behavior is frankly a selfish rewriting of our nations traditions and laws.
