Bennett's Endorsement

E-mail Print PDF

Bennett officially announced that he will not run as a write-in candidate.   Good on him, but why did he even float the idea and why hasn’t he endorsed one of the remaining candidates?

So, Senator Robert Bennett made the right decision by not running as a write-in candidate.  He had said that he wouldn’t run such a candidacy early in his reelection bid, but he floated the idea of a write-in to stay in the media spot light.  That plan certainly worked.  Bennett has been in the national media, with pundits hedging their bets on his future.  While he is out of this race his career is certainly not over; Bennett is well connected and respected among many in the Republican establishment and can easily be a voice for his causes, like Social Security and Medicare reform.

However, the short term future still awaits Bennett’s endorsement of one of the remaining two candidates, Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater.  Here is a little secret,

Representation Schmepresentation

E-mail Print PDF

I have seen the light!

As the census results come it should lead to re-apportionment of House of Representative seats. Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Montana are all disproportionately under represented, right now.  However these states should quit their collective whining. I mean really, it’s not like the U.S. has ever been overly concerned or fought wars over representation.

Over a year ago, I wrote an article showing how underrepresented much of the intermountain west and desert southwest have been over the last decade or more.  In the last decade Congress has attempted to address Utah’s lack of representation by giving the “Beehive State” a seat in the House.  While at the same time a seat would go to Washington D.C.  Never mind that D.C. is not a state and voting House seats are reserved for states.

At the time, when writing the article, I was firmly opposed to such an agreement because of D.C. not being a state. Plus that arrangement wouldn’t address the other states representation issues.  But I’ve had a change of heart.  One might say that I am suddenly enlightened.

Can Conservative Euphoria Get The Best Of Us?

E-mail Print PDF

At the Utah Republican Convention, Bob Bennett received the news that he would not serve a fourth term.  However, we as Republicans need to take a deep look at who are the replacement politicians.

Saturday afternoon the second round of voting results came in.  After months of speculation, concerning the three term Senator, the votes results were read; Robert Bennett would not serve a fourth term.  Cheers erupted, as the Bennett supporters hung their heads.

Now, two days later, the dust has cleared.  Bridgewater and Lee (Bennett’s opponents who survived the third round) are preparing for a primary vote and soon Senator Bennett will be back in D.C. to finish his term.

A Letter to Senator Robert Bennett

E-mail Print PDF

I e-mailed this letter to Senator Bennett's office today.  I will update you on how he responds.  I don't count myself as one who wanted to see the Senator go down in flames.  That being said, if he run's as a write-in he candidate, he could do a disservice to the Senate race, the party and his integrity.

Dear Senator Bennett,

I have followed your political career from your first campaign in 1992, and I have always liked your matter-of-fact responses to issues as they arose.  In your eighteen years as a Senator, I have been pleased with your service to our state.  Indeed, when you stood in opposition to growth in spending, especially Obamacare, I was proud to have you as our Senator.

In speaking to you in the past, I have been impressed by your candor on a variety of issues.  In one appearance, when you were asked if you would run as a third party candidate if you lost in primary, you very frankly said “No.”  I was impressed by your forthright and resolute answer.

Likewise, when your campaign didn’t survive the second round of voting in the Utah Republican Convention, I was additionally impressed by your professionalism in accepting the results.  Your short, yet poignant, thanking of your supporters on face book was extremely classy and honorable.

Now there are media reports that you haven’t ruled out a write-in candidacy.

There was a “clever” post by some anonymous (chicken) writer on the internet.

There was a “clever” post by some anonymous (chicken) writer on the internet.

So I will write a response not anonymously (I was born with intestinal fortitude) to use liberal idiocy to shine a light on…liberal idiocy.
The “brave” writer addresses the post thusly;

“Things Republicans Believe” (received anonymously on the net)

“Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime,
unless you're a
conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and
you need our prayers for
your recovery.”

Try not to laugh so hard you spill your coffee, or if you’re the “brave” soul who wrote this, your hash cake.
As we all know Rush Limbaugh speaks for all Republicans.  The writer resorts to a the old character assassination game.  Which only the left is allowed to use.
